Follow-through

Goochland YouthNet grant applications are available here. Completed applications due by or before October 1, 2017.

Some tips on creating a winning application:

  • BE YOURSELF. We want to hear about your passion, your ideas. So, please don't ask your parents to complete the forms for you. Is your spelling perfect? Your handwriting super-duper? Did you type it, or not? We don't care. The application process is a chance for us to get to know you. The real you. So, don't be shy about it: be yourself.

  • KNOW WHAT YOU WANT. Be prepared to tell us how much money you need, and how you plan to spend it. For some things, you may not have an exact idea ("Pizza for volunteers: about $50") -- that's okay. Other things, you'll be able to budget precisely ("Seven 2"x 4" pine boards from Lowes: $15.63"). As project leader and main moneybags, you're in charge of the budget and how it's spent.

  • ASK FOR HELP IF YOU NEED IT. In addition to providing funds, Goochland YouthNet will help to match you with a mentor in our community. A mentor will not assume a leadership role in your initiative, but will provide guidance when you ask for it.

Goochland YouthNet grants are just that: grants. You never have to repay them.

HOWEVER. We do ask for one thing in return: we want to know if your project was a success, what you learned from the process, and if you plan to build on your initiative.

That's why we ask for a progress report, due in either 4 weeks after your event (if it is a onetime event), or 3-months after the launch of your ongoing initiative.

One written report. Let us know how it went. You can write an email, or a formal paper. Not too much to ask, is it?
